What is Nebula AI?
According to the whitepaper, "Nebula AI is building a decentralized artificial intelligence computing blockchain (NBAI) that reduces the energy costs of traditional Proof of Work by converting GPU mining machines into AI computing services.The AI transactions recorded on NBAI will be irreversible."
What does that really mean?
This means that [Nebula AI](https://www.nebula-ai.com/) is going to convert GPU mining hash power into AI computing power. This new AI computing power is going to be offered for sale on a p2p decentralized exchange where all transactions are recorded onto the Nebula blockchain.
Nebula AI is also going to provide the framework SDK/API for third-party developers to build decentralized AI Apps (DAI Apps) and train the AI. The AI training will be powered by the GPU power and will cost a fraction of what Amazon or Google TPU charge.
These DAI Apps will then be made available for sale and their computing power will be taken from the available GPU mining power.
What is a DAI App for?
The difference between a DApp and a DAI App is that Ethereum based DApps utilizing smart contracts that can only conduct simple tasks. The DAI Apps built on Nebula can utilize the blockchain to pay for services and to rent computational computer power for AI that is rolled into the blockchains smart contracts.
DAI Apps have many use cases and include:
- Quantitative Trading Analysis
- AI Learners Program: Allows universities to rent computational power for classroom studies.
- Biomedical AI: Use computing power to enhance biomedical image recognition
- Sentiment Analysis
- Other uses include Sports analytics, gaming analytics, prediction analysis.
Why share my GPU hash power?
One of the groups that Nebula is targeting is current GPU miners. In the Nebula system, these miners would continue mining but can be rewarded with NBAI tokens for conducting:
- Recording transactions onto the blockchain.
- Providing AI computing power.
The ecosystem of Nebula AI is composed of three large groups, the Foundation, the NBAI system, and the users.
The FoundationThe foundation was established for the promotion and education of foundational artificial intelligence and fund venture activities and is composed of the AI Joint Laboratory and the AI Engineering Training Center.
AI Joint Laboratory
A partnership between Nebula AI and multiple universities including the University of Montreal, the University of Toronto and McGill University. The lab has also recently established an office in Silicon Valley where it expects to add additional partnerships with Universities and blockchain tech groups.
AI Engineering Training Center
Nebula realizes there is a shortage of highly skilled AI engineers and will use the training center to develop talent in this field. AI training was conducted in January 2018 and blockchain training is currently scheduled.
The NBAI System
The NBAI system is comprised of the NBAI blockchain, the AI Data Center and the AI Mining Machine.
NBAI Blockchain
The blockchain is used to record transactions and to offer GPU computing power. Nebula AI will eventually introduce a new consensus model called Proof of Group (PoG). The project plans to move to its own blockchain in two phases.
Phase 1, Helix, is an Ethereum based chain that will use PoW. Phase 2 known as Orion will utilize PoG which is intended to be more cost, energy, and time efficient that PoW. The timeline for Helix is Q3 2018 which will allow the project to get up and running quickly. Orion is projected to launch in Q3 2019.
*AI Data Center* The AI data center serves two major purposes. The first is that it will provide large amounts of GPU computing power for use in the early stages of the project. This will allow developers to build and train AI using the system even before a large number of miners join the ecosystem.
The second purpose is two establish a center in Quebec where AI partners including Universities and Businesses can meet, learn and grow together.
These are the user machines with GPUs that will be used for the decentralized AI computing power.
UsersThese are the people that make up the system.
*AI App Developers *
The 3rd party developers are extremely important to the ecosystem since they will be providing the AI for others to use. Developers will use Nebula SDK/API to design and train AI and will be rewarded with NBAI tokens when their DAI Apps are used.
AI Consumers
Individuals and businesses that need AI but do not have the means to create their own. For example, a student would like a DAI App to predict the outcome of certain scenarios. Utilizing a Nebula the student can use a DAI App and rent the computing power to complete their task.
MinersThe backbone of the whole system. Responsible for providing computing power and for recording transactions.
What about the token?
The NBAI token has four main uses:
- Purchase Computational Power
- Developers Test: Developers pay NBAI to train their AI. Training time is directly correlated to the amount of NBAI paid.
- Pay to use DAI Apps.
- Purchase of DAI Training Services - To fine-tune AI and retrain their models.
